Public bug reported:
the comment
# -r enables logging from remote machines (deprecated, only used in
compat mode < 3)
is no longer correct with the current version of rsyslog
Perhaps replacing that line with another comment would be better.
# rsyslogd no longer accepts the -r option to enable

yeah, that seems pretty similar. I think the bug was originated in
libmutter. But that was fixed a while ago. cinnamon is built on top of
gnome3, so i don't know why it would work differently. Oh, Linux Mint is
based on Debian, not Ubuntu now, right? So maybe the bug fix hasn't been
sent upstream.
Okay, I rebuilt all the mutter packages using the patch, it seems that
gnome-shell no longer mysteriously crashes now. Guake still seems to
sometimes not respond to F12, but at least it isn't causing the desktop
to crash now.

Gnome-shell seems to be quite unstable recently. It seems one of the things
that started occuring the most the last few days is spontaneous crashes from
wine and guake, both programs I mostly use in fullscreen. When using guake, it

Recent updates in precise have rendered the Windows borders to no longer
render properly. The buttons usually seem to work, but the actual border
graphics themselves are usually black with pixelated edges or random
colored lines depending on what window theme is being used.
