getting mixed up there. To make a long story short, my scanner is now

Also, the LCD screen on the printer shows "Receiving Data" for less than 1
second.
Just to clarify... printing is fine in all other apps.

No, it just displays the printer icon for about 1 second in the notification
area on the bottom panel (see my note on this bug from Aug 6).

BTW, in case this happens again, check out gnumeric and abiword...
they were quite acceptable temporary substitutes for my needs.

Seems the same as my problem, except I have the Brother MFC-210C. I have
reinstalled the printer drivers (both lp and cups). I should add that I
noticed that the printer notification icon in the bottom panel appears
for about 2 seconds after printing. I also can print with all other
apps.

I have just done a fresh install of the final Gutsy, and it's still not
working. When inserting a CD, /var/log/messages gets:

FYI... you should know when I boot Feisty or Gutysy from the CD, it freezes
a long time (around 5 minutes) near the beginning of the boot process. You
should try it again and just leave it for a long time before giving up.
Once the freezing is over (on my machine) it boots normally, so it may be

by upgrading to Gutsy without success, I tried Gutsy again, this time as a
