OK - so Based on Rafael Keller Tesser's excellent comments (along with
some hints from VMWare folks ) - I went into the VM machine's BIOS and
[Disabled] the reference to the FLOPPY. Then re-ran
dmesg > ~/Desktop/dmesg_removed_from_BIOS.txt
udevadm info --export-db > ~/Desktop/udev_remove

What if you also ran
dmesg > ~/Desktop/dmesg_physical.txt
udevadm info --export-db > ~/Desktop/udev_physical.txt
and then uploaded those file from your desktop as attachments.

OK - I agree
1) For me the floppy appeared after the upgrade to Quantal Beta1 - There was
no floppy visible before even
on VMWare - but I was willing to accept that believe that it might have
been an issue with an update to either
Open-VM-Tools or VMWare's vmtools (VMwareTools-8.8.
I opened a discussion thread on the VMWare site

that end can look at the issue.

launched Icon can be removed - and it stays removed even after reboot.

center and then started it from the newly created icon in
FYI - selecting a new Wallpaper from the new list totally fixed the
issue. It was a simple fix - but it took me a few days of frustration
to know that it want an issue with the graphics driver.

A recent update to Quantal caused some really annoying behaviors. The problem
was that the wallpaper I previously was using (default in Quantal Alpha3) was
removed from the collection of possible wallpapers. Because the desired
wallpaper could not be found - the following issues were observed.

Yes, it was a serious problem. Does/did the disk originally have
Windows installed with the "Raid Component" option selcted (e.i. from
Acer ). If so I don't think that there is a work around that doesn't
involve wiping the whole thing?

UbuntuOne Sync Daemon consumed 100% of available RAM (6.9 GB of 8.0
GB)As a result the machine went into SWAPPING thrash. Clicking
'Restart' in the UbuntuOneControlPanel had no effect.
Unfortunately, the Swap memory went up to 45% before I was able to open
LaunchPad, s
The issue is related to the fact that the drive is descried as "Raid
Component" in the Disk Utility Image (see comment #2).
I was able to use disk utility to remove this by formatting the drive as
empty ~ and was able to continue on with the installation. So I am now

Attempting to install 11.10 on a completely new unformatted disk
Update manager completely mangled my previous 11.04 desktop and
corrupted GRUB ~ so I deleted all the disk volumes, and am attempting to
install fro scratch.
