FWIW I had a situation a lot like that reported by @unhammer in #24, but
(maybe because I am using a physical disk for the Windows, maybe because
it's a different Windows version) I didn't have clear error messages
about drivers. However, the fix suggested by @davidstreicher123 in #25
worked: Boot

You've got to be kidding me... the bug is almost five years old...
The r50e laptop this bug was about is now running Debian Stable, because
newer kernels dropped support for its network card. It is an 8-year old
machine, and frankly, I'm a little surprised that it can still run as
well as it does
I had responded on this bug less than 3 weeks ago. Should I file a bug
against bugbot?

I'm using kubuntu 8.04.

It seems like the intended dependency was git-core, which is the package

I've taken another short look at system-tool-backends, and found

Oh, scratch my earlier comment. I've now seen what's been going on with
the new system-tool-backends on freedesktop.org. If this bug is still
valid, it probably belongs in a different package now.

I have lost personal interest in this bug, and can no longer test it

I think this bug can rest in peace now.

Dell Optiplex 320 won't boot from live CD Gutsy, Hardy, Intrepi
I suspect this is not a dupe of bug 264789, but rather of bug 221983.
The latter mentions specifically a situation where mobile phones used
for storage don't work, and other USB stoage devices do work; this is
also what I see (Kubuntu Intrepid). According to 221983, a fix was

Yes, well, Ubuntu has included the patch for this bug already in the
