is 71% for the left/right front/back satellites, 63% for front and
subwoofer. When unlocking the separate channels, driving one up to 100%

overamplifying the sound.

Okay, when the rattling is there, replacing .pulse with a backup also works.
However, assuming that the problem was in the config files is probably stupid,
it's probably the config file setting that is somehow triggering the bug in the
actual amplifier code or something...

After some time of using PULSE_NO_SIMD, I noticed the rattling is still
there, only slightly less in volume. That's probably why I thought it
was gone.
However, playing around with PULSE_NO_SIMD on and off, I found a new
workaround that works perfectly here. PULSE_NO_SIMD is not involved,
i.e. off
Problem seems to be mostly gone with PULSE_NO_SIMD set. But I still
occasionally hear it when a specific sound is especially loud, or when I
move the balance full to the front or back satellites through sound
settings.

Before upgrading the packages, copy /usr/bin/pulse-session to
/usr/local/bin/pulse-session.
After upgrading, set STARTUP in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/70pulseaudio to the

The PPA misses /usr/bin/pulse-session (and possibly) other things, so I wasn't
able to test it, because I can't log in anymore. ;)

Just to comment on that specific part: I get hangs with "quiet usplash" as well.
That's how I found the bug at first: It would just hang, and I wondered why, so
I removed "quiet usplash".

I tried the blacklist/modprobe approach. It never crashes, and there are no
errors in dmesg.
Also, using the wireless after about 30 reloads of the driver does not crash
it, it works fine.
So I would say this might be related, but is not the same bug.

any knowledge of the structure of these programs (and for both, there

Upgrade from Ubuntu 8.04 to the intrepid beta via update-manager.
Everything went quite well.
However, when rebooting for the first time, I get "error 15 file not found"
from grub when booting into the 2.6.27-4-generic kernel that is supplied with
intrepid.

I'd like to note (as said in duplicate Bug #252150) that blinking on
traffic is bad behavior in terms of usability.
A blinking LED (or GUI element, ...) is hard to ignore, and will in most humans
gain focus constantly, and annoy them.

Yes, I tested this.
It felt weird first, because I always tried to debug and started from console,
and it just worked.
However, the next time I tried it without the console just after restarting the
machine, and shutdown worked fine.
So it's definitely happening only after some time, or after som
