I can confirm that this is fixed in pulseaudio 0.9.13 (as in the PPA) for me. Thanks Dana!
To anyone trying the PPA on 8.10: Before upgrading the packages, copy /usr/bin/pulse-session to /usr/local/bin/pulse-session.
