Well, I figured out how to fix that : there was a kdedisplayrc config file in my .kde folder (like .kde/share/app/config/) I simply removed it, relogged and then the resolution was the same that the login screen one, and the right one by the way. Then, I checked and the file didn't event appea

Well, you can also do like I did : I went back to a previous version of ubuntu more stable. As far as I am concerned, my Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS - KDE is very stable, but doesn't provide any Kwin effects neither desktop applets but it works, and very well besides !! I'm waiting the 9.10 version to try

Well I'm sorry, I found it was due to the enabling of the "clean startup" service from the kubuntu control panel. this one seems to act as if it was cleaning sorts of sockets created before by ksmserver and consequently, this latter can't find its own track and fell in some kind of login loop.
