My install is quite old, I think it was originally a 7.10 or so (when I
switched to x64), so the file might come from a previous version (I have
a backup from March 2009).

I just wanted to tell that I am not affected by this bug in Karmic while
still using both TMP (0.3.8.2) and Ubufox (0.8) at the same time. In
fact I believe I was only affected in Intrepid, disabled Ubufox and re-
enabled it when upgrading to Jaunty. The issue never appeared again
since then.
Notice that the "subfolder trick" seems to solve the bug permanently
(for all nautilus windows, until the window in which the trick was done
(!) gets closed) while the "two window trick" solves only the bug
temporarily (for example, if you close one and then in the other
navigate to another folder
I am currently experiencing the exact same bug. What is really weird is
that the problematic folder is on a removable drive, which I have
unplugged several times since it first happened, but the issue is still
there: continuous reloading with some files missing.

I am also affected by this bug and I have found a simple workaround that
“fixes“ the bug until you close the buddy list:
on any workspace having at least one window open (excluding the buddy list),
try to swap pidgin's taskbar icon with another one by drag-and-drop.
Then the bugging taskbar
The bug on Pidgin's Trac was automatically closed, but it looks like a
"won't fix" because the protocol does not provide the required info: the
protocol seems to tell the number of new mails since last check (I did
not check this)
If that's right, I believe Pidgin should not display new mails like
I just checked on Intrepid (x86_64 − Pidgin 2.5.2) and it looks like the
count is not wrong any more, at least when there are unread mails. When
all mails are read, the counter is not reset and keeps its previous
value.

After one more m-a a-i alsa, sound is now working for me! Thanks Jose
Bernardo for the "alsa force-unload" trick which avoids rebooting…
I also have that "master" channel for Pulseaudio Mixer, and it affects
the sound level. I have to set both PCM and master at 50% for "normal"
sound output level.

I confirm that It does not work at all under Feisty. I think this is a
too bad regression because it is really anti-ergonomic: without this
feature managing archives is not at all user-friendly. This kind of
misfeature might even make some people leave Ubuntu I think...

I confirm that the two lines given in the script from beryl-project's
wiki correct this issue. It seems finally that it came from incomplete
howto and not from a bug in Xgl.
I just noticed that the French wiki was already modified to include
those lines, but it seems absent from in wiki.ubuntu.com
