It seems that the "Bug" stems from the fact that the format of my music files
are variable: 16 bit, 24bit, 44kHz, 48kHz. It seems that the music players
available in Ubuntu will play only 16 bit wav files at 44 kHz. An exception is

Ana, it is Totem Movie Player 2.26.1, using Gstreamer 0.10.22.
I thought I had removed all of the 24 bit files from the external drive,
but some of the files that do not play are larger than they should be
for 16 bit. There doesn't seem to be any way to check this on UBUNTU so

The OS is UBUNTU 9.04 AMD64. The Programs I used are Movie Player and
Sound Recorder. The files were recorded from the radio using a Creativy
Audio Extigy card in a Windows XP machine. All of the files used for

I downloaded UBUNTU9.04, AMD64, yesterday, 4-23-09.
I selected the German to English dictionary, and was able to get
"finally" from "endlich." Then, I selected the English to German
dictionary and was not able to get "endlich" from "finally.
I have had the same experience -- with two separate UBUNTU 8.04 installations.
I spent considerable time trying to solve the problem. I was unsuccessful. I
gave up. I wiped out the UBUNTU installations and installed Windows. I suspect
it is a virus. I have recently installed UBUNTU 8.10 on sever
It appears to me that there are too many things wrong with P5KU to make
it worthwhile for me -, or anyone else-, to spend more time trying to
fix it. I'm going to reinstall. I have done that often for Windows, and
it has usually solved the problems.

composing an Email message using Evolution, I can type faster than the

You asked me earlier how I configured the printer. I got side-tracked
and never responded. So, this time, for the record, the way I changed
the name (see attachment). I doubt,at this point,if you are really
interested in how I configured the printer, but, if you are, just ask. I

I did it. Nothing changed. I did it prior to responding to the "pesky
Icon" and got the usual result -- only the rotating ball. Using the
terminal command (see attachment) still works --16 updates (14.2 MB)
were downloaded and installed.

I think I know how I created the problem. I started with Ubuntu with
7.04. I put it in an old PIII and was impressed, so I purchased a new
motherboard, P5K, and the rest of the stuff, and built a new computer. I
worked at obtaining a dual boot system,

it still doesn't. But some nice things happened when I launched it from the

the tool bar after a reboot, and the little rotating ball does not go
