For the record I've also verified that personally with the following
steps:
1. Verify -proposed by installing the "-proposed" noble OEM image track and
test the audio functions.
2. Run do-release-upgrade and upgrade to oracular.
3. Enable -proposed in oracular, install the proposed firmware-sof-s
ODM tested with the following procedure for both noble and oracular
linux-firmware:
1. Enabled the -proposed channel and install the linux-firmware.
2. Test the built-in speakers and mics.

I have exactly the same use case: same Ubuntu versions, we're using Packer to
build VM with UEFI without secure boot and store it as a template in a VMware
vCenter, and we're using Ansible for an updates.
Getting the same error:

The firmware-sof-signed in -proposed doesn't seem to fix the LEDs at
least on one HP platform. Reading the file from /sys/class/sound/ctl-
led/mic/card0/list shows nothing.
The md5sum of sof-ace-tplg/sof-hda-generic-2ch.tplg also doesn't match
the one in upstream v2023.12.1 release.
