Bah. I thought I'd checked for udevsettle. Adding the usual
"/sbin/udevsettle --timeout=60" to init-top/udev fixes the DMRAID setup.
However, the segfaults remain. Perhaps, instead, related to

Binary package hint: dmraid
Since my dist-update today, my DMRAID array doesn't seem to be getting
initialised at boot. Unlike previous encounters with this problem, it's
not caused by udevsettle being missing :(.

I'm assuming this is a "known" but I couldn't find any info on where
progress (if any!) is being tracked.
The description for the package reads (as in Feisty):

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: udev
During normal boot of Gutsy (using kernel 2.6.20-16-lowlatency - also
seen in 2.6.22), the following is displayed:

The problem was not present in desktop 8/15-16 for [x|k]ubuntu (I tried
all 3). The delay retrieving the partition information is now less than
5 seconds.
I still could not install using the live cd but those were errors
happening later in the install process.
I would mark this bug as closed.
