Problem persisted with kernel version right up to 2.6.27-12, not
occurred on the one restart so far since 2.6.27-13 (installed to
successfully fix bug 261721) but that means next-to-nothing given the
seemingly random occurrence of the bug, no other proposed updates
installed, up-to-date in intrepid

If it isn't a Dell laptop, it isn't the same bug, file a new bug report.
If it's exactly the same cause, i.e. brightness function keys reporting
a down but not an up, then the solution will be similar but laptop

So what's the status of this bug? I understand that a previous kernel
release fixed the bug for the vendor id = "Dell Inc." case, but the
vendor id = "Dell Computer Cooperation" case has not (yet?) made it into
proposed: verified on my Inspiron 1100, the latest proposed does not fix
the bug.
