Problem persisted with kernel version right up to 2.6.27-12, not occurred on the one restart so far since 2.6.27-13 (installed to successfully fix bug 261721) but that means next-to-nothing given the seemingly random occurrence of the bug, no other proposed updates installed, up-to-date in intrepid-updates and intrepid-security.
Laptop display continues to never be detected and hence lack resolution and colour settings.
