I have ran through this in gdb myself which had the same stack trace.
The error was because a call to glGetintegerv asking for
GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE was returning 0 which caused a floating point

to the source code inside SOIL.c to
Tried using HG version of alsa which still did not work. It seems the
auto configuring of the available HDA widgets from the BIOS is not
working on the GA-MA78GM-S2H.
As a work around you can add the line below to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-6ch-dig
Not sure if
I think I may have found the problem.

Still have same problem after upgrade to linux-ubuntu-modules
2.6.24-15.20. I had already tried the Realtek drivers for the ALC889A
from their website, so not sure if that buggered things up even more.

Just thought I would add to this. I have the same issue too with a Sony
VAIO VGN-SZ3XWP, brightness works with the function keys but does not
work using the sliders in gnome-power-manager. The output of gnome-
power-manager can be seen below. Funny enough, it did work on a fresh
install, but as
I also was playing with the keyboard audio keys when it crashed, I muted
the audio during the logon sound using the keyboard function keys
