Oh damn I just notitced that the ppa version is 3.2.2.1 as well. :( (Not
Gnome-shell 3.4.)
So if the modal + 3.2.2.1 didn't fix it it's either an other problem or it just
doesn't work for you.
I can't recommend 3.4 as I don't know if it's really stable. Maybe
waiting for the next Linux Mint vers
@fig do you have the latest gnome-shell via ppa? Maybe only if you use
the newest gnome-shell and the modal setting it fixes the bug. :)

Did you check if the modal setting got updated? Just open gedit, type something
and close it. The dialog that pops up has to be moveable without moving
omeshell.wordpress.com/2011/09/10/the-modal-windows-behavior/

That did not help. I don't know if I made a mistake but the even while testing
the command the shell crashed. ;)
I copy/paste the line, restarted the shell, opened gedit like in the screenshot
to test it and the dialog was not movable on its own.

No it wasn't. Above is a possible solution that the bug got fixed with
gnome 3.4 but that had nothing to do with the patch and is not working
for everyone.

@Wei En: Yes it's not mainly a sys tray problem. The screen flickers
every time an icon is added and removed. If I have the MPlayer icon
active and open and close videos I can get a crash very fast. If it's
disabled a crash only happens every now and then. (Opening the "Menu",
or starting a program

I get a lot crashes whenever a program uses the sys tray. The screen is
flickering when something is added to it and flickers again when removed. I
guess every flickering has a chance to become a crash. :(
My solution for now is to remove icons that are not needed. For example I
disabled them fo
@luca_ing: Can you specify the graphics more? HD5700 is the family there
is no real card that has this name. There are 5730 (botebook only), 5750
and 5770.
@kede: The HD8750 does not exist (yet). The current generation is 7xxx.

I tried the method Keith mentioned. It didn't fix anything, sadly. :( In fact
it was as same "crashy" as before. So I installed it all again and noticed less
crashes as estimablesir reported.
