I can certainly report a bug there, but I'm not sure it would be
helpful. I know nothing about pipewire, so I'm not sure what exactly to
report as broken though. All I really know is that the default
configuration of Ubuntu 24.04 does not work on my system and causes
freezes. I don't have any idea
I can now confirm that the problem is gone after switching to
pulseaudio.
This fixes all hangs, including "alsamixer" hanging on the command line
before showing it's text-based GUI.

I'm pretty sure I have tracked this problem down to a problem with
pipewire and/or alsa.
After changing the notification sound from "default" to "none" in the
Genome settings, the terminal hangs seem to be gone. Firefox still
hangs, however (not surprisingly so, since it shouldn't be affected by

I have the same issue on a Dell OptiPlex system that originally came
with Ubuntu 20.04. It ran fine under 22.04, but shows the issues
described since I upgraded to 24.04.
I can confirm that some Gnome applications and Firefox seems to be
affected. Gnome terminal in particular freezes each time a n

that bug. I got used to the bug, and just didn't use the gnome-smb
support any more.
Now, I just tried again, it it works again

kerberos authentication broken
I just realized that my patch actually only fixes the gnome-cups-manager,
but not the printer dialog in gnome applications - at least not in firefox.
On a related note - I posted the same information to the gnome bugtracker
(http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=170673), and was informed
that
I'll add my patch as an attachment to the gnome bug #170673 - but as
this bugreport was submitted 2005-03-17 (!), I'm not too confident that
they'll fix this soon.
Since ubuntu (or debian - don't know if the libgnomecups packages of
debian and ubuntu differ) already includes custom patches to
libg
using the gnome cups support :-(.

But since my report included a way to fix it, I marked the other one as

So, #50916 is now marked as a duplicate for this report.

Public bug reported:
Hi
When browsing is enabled in cups, then the local cupsd reexports the
printers found on the network. But not all requests to a printer are
proxied by the local cupsd - the download of ppd files is an exception.
libgnomecups, however, tries to download the ppd file from the
