Both controllers are tested okay working on an Ubuntu LiveCD environment
(kernel 2.6.28-4-generic) and the old firewire stack.
New firewire stack works reliably only for the Ricoh (internal)
controller. The TI (PCI Express) adapter appears to work but then I see

am experiencing *severe* data corruption with the new firewire stack
enabled in Ubuntu Linux kernel 2.6.35.22.23 in conjunction with the
StarTech EC1394B2 firewire express card. My definition above of

With default configuration not using those settings, the card works only
when present during boot. If card is removed and added again, there is
an error, and it does not work again.

Confirm that 2.6.28-11.42 had the problem. I was able to reproduce the
issue 5 or more times by issuing 'rm -fr dirname' on an 80gb directory
hierarchy of files up to 5gb each. The system soft locked just like the

Same thing is happening here. The Sound Preferences applet loses its
mind when any change to the Sounds theme is made. Sounds will only play
if there is an unmodified "Ubuntu" Sounds theme loaded.
I don't know how it does this. I thought it was the vgscan command that
created those /dev/vg* device nodes.
I'm remembering an early system I ran to use LVM. The /dev/mapper/* entries
existed when there were no /dev/vg* nodes. When I wanted /dev/vg* nodes I
had to issue a "vgscan --mknodes" comma

#235689 are fine, it is the LVM / crypt stuff in /dev/vg* that is messed

The permissions appear to be incorrect:

The guide at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KvmVirtManagerEtc instructs us to
do:
$ virt-manager -c qemu:///system
Adding my username to the libvirtd group and initializing my view of
qemu (with the above command), all network configuration works as
expected.
The need to type in this command is counter

A documented and GUI-accessible means of permitting users access to
virtiualization is needed. I suggest that an enhancement be made to User
Settings to control group access for virtualization. Automating the
access is not needed.

I've applied your patch locally and it does resolve my symptoms. I can
now assign storage space successfully with checked '[x] acceleration
enabled' option.
