I have the same problem with the driver installed by the driver manager.
However, a manual install of the same driver version (169.12) from
nVidia's website is not having the same problem.
I'm not sure what is different about the drivers from the restricted-
modules package and the drivers from th
I've now tested several releases of the driver from nVidia's site and
they all work (including 169.12). I'm going to attempt a local build of
the restricted-modules package to see if that works as well.

173.08 is a beta driver, install at your own risk. I have found it to be more
stable than 169.12 on my system.

I've uninstalled the nvidia-glx-new package to avoid conflicts caused by
updates and the r
Driver version 173.08 from nVidia's website fixed the issue for me. I
was using the 8.04 beta for quite some time and the problem started with
the 169.12 version of the nvidia-glx-new package.
