I'm not in a position to tell you for sure. I believe that I saw a
variety of jumping-bean problems even in hardy with multiple monitors,
but surely you or upstream have plenty of other reports of problems with
the GUI->xorg.conf conversions.

I completed the 8.04 upgrade. It rebooted. I logged in.
zsh, my normal shell, was hanging.
So, I used Alt-F2 to launch a bash in a command window.
I got the messages I reported.
I rebooted.

Here's what happened to me. Some unexplained phenomenon hammered my swap
partition, so it lost its UUID. My system simply booted without incident
or warning -- but also without any swap!
mount and swapon, run from command line, complained that the UUID was

g++ -m32 fails to link, complaining that it cannot find -lstdc++. It
mentions /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++*, but not anything
installed by the lib32 package.

instead of the explanatory label that shows up in kubuntu. I apologize

Then I added kubuntu-desktop to give someone who likes kubuntu the
option of logging in that way.
Now my menus in xubuntu are infested with kubnuntu programs.

Summary: The USB evdo modem vendor=413c product=8133 from dell is the
same device as ID 1410:2100 from Novatel.
I don't suppose such a thing could go into the patch stream for gutsy?
