Public bug reported:

I've got a machine that was installed with the stock (gnome) desktop,
and then I added xubuntu-desktop and kubuntu-desktop.

The results are messier than they might be. The various desktops leave
messy artifacts in each other's menus (in particular, KDE programs show
up with bad labels in xubuntu menus).

The fight over the splash screen is also not very edifying, with the
kernel rebuilding and all.

It seems to me that it would be good if each desktop were TWO meta-
packages: one that installs a respectable version of the desktop as
citizen who can get along with others, and another that says 'take over
this machine, please'.
