On closer look, there _is_ an upstream change, in ".gitignore", which
has been in the upstream source since January 2017, but got removed by
an older version of dh-make-golang by something like --exclude-vcs after
the "git clone" run.

Testing on Ubuntu 12.10, and with hints from an answer to solve a similar
problem in KDE[1],
it seems that the easiest way to get Shift+AltGr to work as the Compose key is
to:
Go into Keyboard Layout Option,
expand "Key to choose 3rd level",
and select "Right Alt, Shift+Right Alt key

I tried the upgrade to 12.04 LTS (beta) on 2012-03-16, and experienced
