Actually, the issue is this in asm-{powerpc,i386}/types.h, which
joystick.h includes:
#if defined(__GNUC__) && !defined(__STRICT_ANSI__)
typedef __signed__ long long __s64;
typedef unsigned long long __u64;
#endif
My bet is that kdebase is using -ansi compiler option, which defines
__STRICT_ANS
I have checked for update:
gmsh_1.61.3-3ubuntu1_i386.deb (dapper)
gmsh_1.65.0-2_i386.deb(edgy)
both do not have the .desktop file.
This bug needs some love.

Going to kick this over to udev, since I've no idea where else to put
it. I do know that the dm-crypt module is not in the realm of "auto-
loading", and since loading it makes everything work, then the kernel is
no longer the culprit.
Something else needs to load this module.

What Vincenzo Ciancia suggested worked for me. The workaround is the
"DOUBLE_CONSOLE_SWITCH" which is set in the /etc/default/acpi-support
file.Set this option to "true" by. The line should look like:
DOUBLE_CONSOLE_SWITCH=true
If still confused, please refer to the afore mentioned Ciancia email.
