I have an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro (RV 250) which had the same symptoms - 3D
applications would hard freeze. I can still ssh into the box from
another machine, but killing X did nothing, so I think the freeze is
actually the video card.

I think the problem isn't the w_bytes. gettext should remove the
%PRIuMAX and replace it by something like %llu. So w_bytes goes for the
%llu and human_readable() is for %s in the string. The segfault comes
because gettext doesn't replace % by %llu so fprintf doesn't
reconize % and so he gives w_by
I don't think that's the reason: at least, it doesn't seem to be for me.
My joystick is /dev/input/js0, I want to use that, not some event* name
like evtest forces.
jstest works fine, with the exception that it segfaults when it tries to
print out the "names" of the buttons.

Yes it happened with the released version of Kubuntu 6.06 but not with
the 5th flight of Ubuntu. I installed the xorg packages from the CD

I would do as you ask if I knew where that log was. I have searched for with

Nope, the upload today wasn't that fix. We discovered today during the
toolchain bof at the development summit that the gcc-4.1 that glibc had
been built against was too old, and didn't include the stack smashing
protection code. This was essentially a simple rebuild against a newer
compiler.

resolvconf package is for sure not part of standard Kubuntu install as
it is in universe repository (and stuff from universe are never
installed by default).
The only other package mentioning resolvconf is avahi-dnsconfd, which lists it
as Recommends - it is possible that you got this package ins
Would it be possible to show a dialog (if running in vmware) that would
ask whether the user wants to disable framebuffer for performance
reasons?

I would say this is more of a request for inclusion of ksynaptics in
dapper LTS (dapperLTS+1, now, I suppose). Changing bug name to reflect
that.
..but it does hinge on resolution of bug #3406.
Mousepad control is a very important feature for laptop users - some
mousepads are not very usable wit
Fix works for me (R32).
Peter: Did ACPI suspend work for you before the -25 kernel update? If
not, I'd say you have a seperate bug. Seeing that your A20 uses APM by
default, ACPI is probably broken in general for your machine. If this
is the case this bug should remain marked as fixed.

Syncing problems 100% solved :) - Upgraded kernel to 2.6.17.1 and Palm
syncing now works perfectly. So it appears that the default kernel is a
bit flaky on the USB front
