Public bug reported: Binary package hint: binutils-dev
It would be nice if binutils-dev installed the PIC version of libiberty.a, at least on architectures where PIC matters (e.g., amd64). Trying to link libiberty.a into a shared library on amd64 results in the following error: /usr/bin/ld: /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.1.2/../../../../lib64/libiberty.a(cplus-dem.o): relocation R_X86_64_32S against `_sch_istable' can not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.1.2/../../../../lib64/libiberty.a: could not read symbols: Bad value collect2: ld returned 1 exit status ** Affects: binutils (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Install PIC version of libiberty.a https://launchpad.net/bugs/50512 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
