Hey. This happens when Trojita can't find the (configurable) IMAP folder
where you want to store your sent mails. You can change this in the
Settings/SMTP dialog. Mine has "[Gmail]/Sent Mail". I think at first I
had it entered as just "Sent Mail", and it didn't work until I changed it.

If I understand what you want to do: have Trojita store your password in
non-plaintext form, Trojita already has support for this. Trojita uses
QtKeychain, which securely stores data in Windows, OS X, and Linux if Gnome
keyring or KWallet is installed.
To enable:
