As Christian pointed out, now that systemd >= 257-2ubuntu1 is in plucky
images, this has gone away. I can't repro anymore.
I did also try upgrades to plucky from oracular (after installing
nginx), and cannot repro. It's possible this was fixed in systemd 257.1

Since I don't have SELinux enabled, I managed to get rid of it by
removing "security=selinux" from the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX variable in
/etc/default/grub and updating grub again with "update-grub".

I can't find a direct link between all these reports, or at least not
one that points towards openssl. In particular, GCC does not use openssl
which means that crashes in GCC cannot be explained by problems in
openssl.
