Of course, I was referring to the person who provided the solution to the
problem...
Following bender02's tips, I firstly deleted my local ./texlive directory (BTW,
the directory was
./texlive2011, although my system is texlive 2010. Is that correct?).
As root I ran updmap-sys and sure the eul
Dear Mojca.

Sure enough, languages.dat was not updated when I installed the
texlive-collection-langportuguese
package (among other languages).
The file is located at:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2763 Oct 8 06:31
/usr/share/texlive/texmf/tex/generic/config/language.dat
The file is attached, if you are interest

I've seen that post too, but:
1) I'm not running FC16. I'm still running FC15.
2) I'm not using TL2011, I'm using TL2010.

I leave it up to him.

I'm a bit rusty with latex, since I've been using LyX, RPM and yum for a long
time...
I forgot that the hyphenation codes are inserted into the format file...
It's been some years (more than 10...) since I last created a tex format, and
never did with texlive.

That's exactly what I wanted. Now it worked:
$ pdflatex tem_t4
This is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-1.40.11 (TeX Live 2010)
restricted \write18 enabled.
