Hello all,
Got this off the PLUG list. Yet another reason NOT to
post links to ZDNet articles on techtalk. :)
I can't say too much about the opinions on the writers,
but I can say this: take note about writing to the top

Use of ASP usually indicates some sort of sympathy for microsoft products;

Hey all-
The other day whilst I was on vacation, another sys admin noticed that
check-packages on a machine had been altered, and on that day a login via
telnet from an unknown ip was detected. This made him worry, so I checked
it out today, and found this in the logs:

And is it the true end of the world, or just the end of the world as we know
it? If the latter, then I feel fine.

I have no idea about Cobalt web servers, but if this were a linux box I
would think there may be a problem starting a shell. I'm assuming there is
one because it uses ssh/telnet. If it is racked at an ISP, do they have
support that you can call who will hook up a console (or look at the LCD

NIS is, occasionally, the bane of my existence. The latest is the following
error whenever I run make in the /var/yp directory (this log is what shows
up on the slave server; the master just says the slave is timing out):

I'm getting a new printer, hurrah!
I'm used to using lpd and magicfilter on Debian for my
11-year-old HP DJ 500.
But the new printer I'm getting is a black and white lazer
printer, Brother 1250 which is one of their suggested printers in
that category. This is according to linuxprinting.org.
