Hi folks,
I don't want to start a flame war, but ask a serious question. This
is not a troll! I promise.
I've been running various strains of Linux on my laptop for about 6
months (Tried RH, then spent several months using Linux-Mandrake, now
I'm on Progeny Debian), and although I've *loved*

I've actually heard that Solaris' StarOffice for Linux works quite well.

Assuming you have at least 128 MB RAM, yes, it works pretty well.
The w
Hi,
I have been using vnc on my linux box quite
successfully for some time.
Basically, the only config files are in ~/.vnc
namely, 'xstartup' needs to be edited to start
the window manager and programs (such as
panel and/or sawfish) that you want to be
running when you connect.

David,
Sorry to be reqponding so late here, but even late, I
feel I need to suggest using cronolog to rotate you
apache logs rather than cron + logrotate.

Cronolog has worked really well for us. When we used
log rotate we had problems if our s

I'm gonna give Mandrake 8 another go around. Have some sound card snafu
which I'll post to the list later. But my main problem really is email. I
wish I had a seperate machine to dedicate as a linux desktop. I hate having
my email in two programs on two different OSes. I'm always afraid I won

/proc/net/ip_fwchains should exist on your system if you've got
ipchains compiled into your kernel. To check for portfw, run "ls
/proc/sys/net/ipv4" -- you should get a listing for files

I can't help but notice that despite Jenn's announcement, all the messages
seem to be on the old .org lists. I've kept on getting messages all along,
and none are on the .simegen.com address. Jenn, is there a cutover date?
Which list should we *real

Someone asked when the cutover was for the list move. Um.. been
and done. I can't use @linuxchix.org to reach the old lists anymore.
The DNS has been changed, and as the change propogates, each of you
will gradually find that the old site isn't accessible at
linuxchix.org (but the new site is).
The last two Layman's Guides are now ready. At the start of the next
hour (from when I write this), they should be publically available at
http://www.cyber.com.au/users/jenn/
Would people please do me the favour of checking me for accuracy (&
spelling, & anything else you want to check me for)?
