Oh, if you want to make devices in /dev [1], make sure that's the
directory you're in when you run MAKEDEV. By default, it creates them
in the current directory (at least debian's does)
My latest problem with sound (after following the semi useful sound
HOWTO which only helped me in diagnosing whether I had the IRQ/IOs
right) was the permissions on my /dev/* sound devices.
Even though my sound card was working (compiled into the kernel...

It's a print, erm, non-spooler -- like lpd, but instead of queueing, it
just sends directly to the printer. BTW, it's working (nearly) pefectl
I believe with Caldera 2.3 there is an icon in the bottom left of the tool
bar in kde that is COAS. This is the utility I believe that will help you
out. I believe it contains a bunch of utilities for most setup things.

Currently I'm using ip-masquerading to pass
internet access to my local network.
I assume that this must be possible, using
ipchains... (and, btw, I don't mind reading
the manual, but I tend to learn a _lot_
easier from example type things...)
Can I only allow certain IP addresses on

Hi Judy,
I don't know what distro you have but if its RH the command sndconfig will
help set up your sound and I believe the printtool command should help to
set up a printer.

Hi Gustavo,
Perhaps what you may want to do is create an empty directory off of / and
mount your newly created device there. Or, if you want create a directory
/usr2 then mv all of /usrs files into /usr2 then rm /usr then rename /usr2
back to /usr. Sounds a bit confusing but if you are very car
Hi guys!
Well, when i executed #df -m, i was surprised with the little space that
left after my installations. So, i created hda5, linux native, with 1gb (my
main linux partitions are hdb1 and hdb2 -> swap). But i've a doubt: how can
i enjoy all this new space? I know i've to moutn it using mtab,

Hi guys!
Since i've migrated to slack 7, i'm having problems with my /dev files.
After trying to configure my sound card following many howtos as u can
imagine (i didn't know that the problem was in /dev/audio), i installed
sndconfig. it configured my sound, but when that time to play some sample
