Yes, you can calculate the routes online, however having the map data on the
phone will speed up route calculation as well as reducing the amount of data
needed or allowing offline operation completely which is beneficial to those on
pay-as-you-go data plans or when roaming.

Am thinking of buying a new phone as my nokia 6120 keys are coming off, what

You can press talks, down arrow to be able to read it, but I think after
that happens you won't be able to activate the link. You must have
updated your email client on that phone.
