I am a fan of Java (especially compared to hold-your-nose MFC/C++), but it hasn't
worked out to be appropriate for the kinds of software I work on ... but that may be a

Thats okay - I tried the JRE on the last Live CD I burned and it ran fine.
I've not tested jSword yet but it ran Huckster comfortably on my 128MB
laptop. I'm keen on portability (I may package the apps and resources from
the LiveCD for Windows). Having Java also means I can include my 80% done
Davy,
I gave the installation size of Java as 1.2M. I was wrong. I noted this
in a reply to Lynn. It is just shy of 15M for Linux. And that is packed.
JSword is still small if your justification of Java still stands.

It is now at 2M, down from 9M.
Great!
The size of Java 1.4 JRE is 1.2M. My opinion is that Java belongs on

Yes it has advantages for other packages e.g. Huckstar.
Anyway the point of all this is that JSword will have a relatively small
footprint.
I tried again last night and wi
The goal of JSword is to provide a platform independent implementation
of Sword and a platform independent UI for it. It should run on any
machine that has Java 1.4.
We have worked hard on reducing the size of the JSword distribution.
It is now at 2M, down from 9M. We will be releasing it as 0.9.
I would be very interested in a version of Sword for Linux that does not
need Gnome/KDE. I was thinking about a GTK interface.
I am working on a Christian Linux Live CD (http://www.latedecember.com/)
and a console based app would be great. The Distro will be a remaster of DSL
which is only 50M
