You've just shortened my workload, I believe. I was setting this
up for a future test in conjunction with imagemagick; but, based
on your advice, I think I'll pass on the rest of the sane-backends, etc.

OK, in this case I'd try getting it to work with gphoto2 first, if
that fails, SANE will not be able to do any better.

Hi Major,
Well, I've now installed gphoto2, during configuration it's
found (checking for gphoto2-config... gphoto2-config ), but
sane-backends-1.0.7-cvs-2002-04-23.tar.gz gives me the message:
Sorry, can't use GPHOTO2
GPHOTO2 APIs have been changing rapidly. Only
the current version from
...I think you ought to install gphoto2...
Sorry, never heard of it before. But, that explains why gphoto2-config
isn't with sane-backends-1.0.7.
Thanks,
Philip
Hi,
The problem I had with jpeg in sane-backends-1.0.7 was
caused by tru64's shared jpeglib, which is version 5. Renaming
the shared lib enabled the configure script to find version 6b
of libjpeg.a
Now, you'll hate me because I tried to configure with
--with-gphoto2, but it coul

Don't worry, I didn't repost, I only Cc-d it to the list, that's why

I don't think it's the include file. The test for libjpeg comes first:
AC_DEFUN(SANE_CHECK_JPEG,
[
AC_CHECK_LIB(jpeg,jpeg_start_decompress,

May be it's not finding the include file. Have you checked config.log?

Hi,
Thanks to Henning and Ralph for their response on the
problem I'm having getting jpeg recognized.
It responds the same even when I wipe out the
sane-backends-1.0.7 completely and recreate it. distclean
does the same.
