I have been active for more than ten years for SANE and on the
sane-devel mailing list now. In the last years my priorities have
changed and so I decided to spend my time for my family and my little
doughter in th

You have to enter the command line option with which you can print a
file. On most systems this is "lp" or "lpr".
If you want to specify a special printer (if you have more than one or
no default printer) then you have to add the correct option, e.g.
lpr -P laserjet

Bug in xsane-0.993:
When no ICC/ICM profile is defined then xsane crahses when a scan is started.
There is no way to solve this problem when color management (lcms) is not
compiled in. When color management is compiled in then you can go to
preferences/setup/color management and enter an ICC/I
Works fine for me.
I suggest you remove (or rename) the config dir ~/.sane/xsane

Problem:
XSane tells you the mail has been sent but in fact it was not accepted by the

The SANE-Logo is the winner of the Gimp-Contest in December 1998.
It has been created by Stefan Kamphausen.
It does not represent a phone - although you are right, it looks a bit like a
phone.
If I remeber right then the Symbol
A backend has to be able to handle all possible buffer sizes
for then sane_read command. the command "scanimage -T"
does test the behaviour of a backend with different buffer sizes.
xsane uses a sane_read with a buffer size of 64kB.

XSane does get this information from the backend.
May be you have to select an option (Scanmode or in standard or advanced
options window) to tell the backend to use 16bits/sample. May be the
scanner does not support 16 bit output, only uses 16 bit internal and
outputs 8 bits/sample.

Thanks for your bug report.
I was able to reproduce the bug with the umax backend.
With sane-pnm everything worked fine - that was the reason
why I did not recognize the bug before the release of 0.97.
You can correct it this way:

Please enable debug output of the backend by setting the environment
variable SANE_DEBUG_UMAX to 12, then do a preview and a real scan and
