This thread made me wonder abouth something. Is there any
problem with using a cpio backup from and ext2 to restore
a file on an ext3 filesystem. Hopefully I will never have
to test it.

I just upgraded a 6.2 machine to 7.2 I have alot of programs
that have embedded escape sequences for printing in the past
the filters figured out they were ascii now I have to have
a seperate printer that is a text printer.

in printcap.local so you don't lose them on reboot. Do

I did a clean install of rh7.2 on my home machines about a
month ago loaded the libc ld.so from 6.2 and had no problem
loading word perfect. So this weekend I installed 7.2 on
the first machine at work. Wordperfects graphical install
fails and when i do a text base install it says wp doesnot
work
populate smbpasswd
cat /etc/passwd | mksmbpasswd.sh > /etc/smbpasswd
set smbpasswd with smbpasswd command for each user

I did try the pages you listed yesterday, but they
generated error messages with opera. I guess I'll
try another browser and see if I can get it to
work. Did the ATI Radeon 7500 work if you didn't use

Here is a simple suggestion for the installation
program. When it gives the bad or dirty media
message it would be nice if it unmouned the cd
so you could eject it and replace it with
a different copy or try to clean it. Just

I had a similar problem when printing a ps file a few weeks ago
I finally used printconf to recreate the printer and it then
worked. This is not a very nice solution but you could try it.
Otherwise you might try the lprng mailing list for help.

I installed the XFree 4.2 rpms under 7.2 a few weeks ago and it has
worked great for me. If you want Mesa packages you will want to install
them first since XFree 4.2 will install newer versions of some of the libs
so you can't install it afterwards. Your mileage may vary.

after it is booted and have it work and unplug it and go

for stubborn printers I set up the printer as a local
printer sometimes you have to temporary attach it to
the computer than go to properties and change the port
since you can assess the printer it might work.

file from dos format to unix format getting rid of the ^M, there
is also a program called unix2dos that will convert the other way
so you get line returns in windows when you open a file created

I have a dual boot computer that my kids play on. I would
like to let them shutdown the computer so they can reboot

I use pine for mail and fetchmail with procmail to pickup mail.
Pine allows me to change where it looks for mail, but is there
a way to tell procmail to put incoming mail into a different
file rather than /var/mail/username I would like to pick up the
mail and put it in /usr/local/lib/mail so s
How do you turn on forwarding at boot for RH7.2
I added the echo to proc to rc.local but I am sure there is a better way.
The worst part is I have it working on my home computer but I looked at
lots of files in /etc/sysconfig and can't find where it is turned on.
