1) I have set up a dumb terminal and modem dialin successfuly, and have
edited the /etc/gettydefs file to show number of users, date, time, line
spedd etc at the logon prompt.
How can I do this for the logon prompt recieved when logging on at the
normal terminal, tty1?? This info, from what
I have got problems with setting up pppd to run with other logins other
than root. Prehaps I can draw on everyones vast knowledge base on this
occasion... :)
I have installed a redhat 5 distrubution recently, WITHOUT X.
I have succesfully set up pppd and chat scripts, so that root can dial up.
Problem fixedthe ppp-on-dialer script refered to chat...not
...usr/sbin/chat.
Used debug in options fileconnect-errors reported could not find chat.

we have windows clients using eudora that need to access mail via pop3 on a
redhat 5 host.
We have two mail hosts, both redhat 5. on one the syslog reports that
/usr/sbin/ipop3d cannot be found. On the other, no entry is even made in
the syslog.
Needless to say, the eduora clients dont retrieve

I find the best option for nt and linux is a small dos partition ( say 10
meg ).
Install msdos x.x and then isatll nt. It will use its own boot loader (lilo
). Then boot linux from the dos partition using loadlin.
So you have 2 menus dos/nt and then linux/dos.
It also allows you to use dos progra
try the --force option.

Got it !
It seems Apache 1.2.5 doen't want to know about direcories if they are
executable, even if no ececutables reside in the directory. Make the
directores +x and all works fine ..!

Now it seems nobody can access any sub directorys of our main document
directory. Access is ok to the documents directorybut not its sub
directorys ( where eveything is )
Apache reports the informative 403 access forbidden.

I had a look at my ip_forward and the first line is exactly the sameas
yoursie default 0, which I assume is to deny by default, and use the
following rules as exceptionsand I have had no problem with
mine...Redhat 5.0.
