Gee, I didn't know you could use that after starting X.
I just tried it but it appeared to crash X.
I got a terminal with the following error message:

My guess is that you should recreate your *.kbd source
keyboard map description file, with the xkbcomp command.
Look at the xkbcomp man page more precisely,
you'll get the instructions for doing that.
