Hi All -
Refer to NEC 690.35 Ungrounded Photovoltaic Power Systems. 690.35(D)
specifies the types of PV source conductors required. For standard 600 V
ungrounded systems it is typical to use PV wire (which may or may not be
double insulated) under the arrays where installed exposed and then

Hi Folks,
Checking to see if anyone has had experience with the new Magnum "hybrid"
inverters? I've got a client with too small a generator that this could be a
solution for.

I have felt for some time that inverters should have a logic control to
turn them off. "Short contact A to ground to disable inverter" type of
interface. If we had that, we could implement generator protection very
simply.

The LADWP engineer (Tony Ramirez) advised the inspector (Brenden Owens) who

Hi,
Every summer I get a few calls from annoyed hot water customers who can't
stand hearing their boiler fire merely to keep the indirect tank up to
setpoint temperature, when of course the solar preheat tank is at 160

This issue is being covered in the RE media quite actively, as
threats to industry success such as these can set precedents in

I'd hoped there would, by now be a national/federal "agreement" on what
constitutes a save battery based grid-tie system, but I guess we're not
there yet

For years we installed, "Double Whammy" bypass valves enabling folk to go
'solar only', 'solar preheat', or 'primary only', hoping folk would bypass and
turn off their primaries during the summer season. We did this ourselves for

Just brought it up with AEESolar and they can supply red and black PV Wire.
In reference to marking the conductor polarity with tape, wouldn't that
fall foul of the NEC rule that only allows wire colouring on conductors
larger than #6?

200.6 allows 3 continuous white stripes to identify the grounded
conductor on wires smaller than #6, so All cable's marking would
qualify, we just can't field tape it. (which makes sense: if the white
tape falls off, and you're left with 2 black wires, you're in for
trouble...)
