Those "buy America" clauses that congress always seems to put in to cover
their butts and wave the flag often don't have any real teeth. Don't know
about that particular one, but most are subject also to various
international trade & free trade treaties and agreements, which in many
cases nulli

We had to recently deal with this. It's complicated.
As I understand it:
The WTO list of ~60 countries counts as "Buy American" ONLY IF a project
is more than $7,804,000 (I believe this amount relates to the check
being written for your Sanyo project, as opposed to the total funding

Can anyone tell me the standby power draw on a
Xantrex SW 4048 plus?
I am betting it's 25 to 50 watts just sitting there doing nothing, all this
inverter does is idle to start the generator when needed, no AC output is used.
I seem to be unable to download the manual from any of the web sites
Hi Bob,
I'll send you the PDF's I have for the 4024 in a separate private email.
The Spec sheet lists idle consumption as less than 16 watts but my memory
from having measured it at one time several years ago was that it was more
like 40 watts. And remember that there were several firmware revisi
Hi Bob,
I believe it's about 30 watts. Can't you just leave it in "search"
mode? That will use considerably less power...

The specs for the SW4048+ shows Idle Consumption (Typical at full
voltage) < 20 watts. I too have observed a Xantrex SW inverter drawing
more than spec at idle, specifically a SW5548 at about 50W at idle,
which was well above spec if I remember correctly. That was brand new
out of the box.

I'd like to know your experiences when finding shattered module(s) in
the middle of a full palletized shipment, particularly when you observed
no exterior damage having inspected the shipment carefully. How did your
supplier/manufacturer handle it? How did the freight company handle it,

Jason:
Back when SolarWorld (or maybe they were Shell at the time) used to include
a grounding screw, we once found a grounding screw packet sandwiched
between glass-to-glass packed modules. One of the modules was shattered
due to the pressure of the screw. Look for a foreign object amongst
Several years ago when selling 85w BP laser groove panels we received 3 or 4
panels in a 10 panel shipment that were shattered. Pallet was fine, the boxes
were intact on the outside, no visible sign of damage. Distributor had a great
deal of difficulty believing that we didn't cause the problem.
When four pallets of Spire 85W modules arrived at the job site in 2006, the
ranch manager there signed for them after counting them and only a cursory
look and walk around.
Turns out the very bottom module on one pallet had a slight, and almost

Howie,
Bob was asking about the SW+, not the SW. I'll send him a pdf of the
manual for that unit off-list. Others can contact me off-list if
they too wish a copy (I've been collectin' this s**t for years).
I used an SW+2524 in my own home from 2004-2010, given to me
Bob:
I have posted the manual for the SW Plus series on my web
site: http://millersolar.com/resources/Xantrex/xantrex.html.
The manual shows and idle of less than 20 watts.
Interesting that you use the inverter only as a generator start. Does the
inverter charge batteries? I do not quiet
Friends:
I am seriously disappointed at the lack of informational support some
manufacturer's provide on legacy equipment. Two I am thinking of are
Xantrex and Solar World. There is no on-line documentation of discontinued
products for these two companies. It is as if these products do not
