Thanks to all for the great advice on the AC coupled system we are working on.    We were trying to do this with the XW Xantrex as that was what the client had wanted, but after all the comments I am going to talk him into going with an Outback power panel AC coupled to a SunnyBoy, and use an aux

I agree that whether you go with AC or DC coupling you'll want to run the DC from the array to the battery inverter location to take advantage of the higher voltage. If you go with AC and the Xantrex XW you'll want to talk with them directly about backfeeding the inverter from the load side. I don'

I was excited about using a new Apollo controller. Did they ever come up with a listed GFI/breaker setup for that high of a voltage? Doug Wells The Solar Specialists Worcester, VT 05682 (p) 802-223-7014 (c) 802-498-5856 www.thesolarspecialists.com __

Hi Jeff, 1. if the distances are really far why not run the DC from the panels to the inverter, higher voltage, smaller wire. 2. if you use the XW then yes you will be running the AC from the SB to the sub panel, this will feed the inverter and cause it to charge, which you will need to put

This is not a good combination of equipment choices. If you want a safe and reliable installation it is good practice to use equipment as it is intended to be used. You should not back feed an Xantrex XW through the output side. The easiest way to go is use a Sunny Island with the batteries

Hi Jeff, This isn't an answer to the questions below, but an alternate suggestion. Apollo Solar has a charge controller which allows for strings of up to 200 VOC (160 volts nominal) and I believe 100 amps. Would this not be a simpler, more efficient system? Just a thought... Daryl DeJoy NABCEP
