Don't even get me started on that. I have a library that wants a PV system
and batteries just to operate the elevators in the event of an outage. It's
120/208V. We are seriously looking at a Sol-Ark 30K.

Another option may be a main breaker, bypass breaker interlock kit in the
non-backed up panel. The home would obviously be limited to 200A total during
an outage but, if he doesn’t mind going and swapping Cybertruck chargers he may
also not mind going down to the basement and hitting the interl

Yes, but the PV system would need to be split, and inevitably, the balance
of PV and battery assigned to each distribution panel will not match up
well at times. A single battery and a single PV system serving the entire
property is what he really wants. Tesla is not the answer for that today. I

Jason,
Sounds like an interesting market.
A transfer switch is probably more expensive than two Tesla vehicle chargers,
one for each system. He just needs to remember which one to plug into and you
just need to sell at least 4 PW3s, a couple gateways and you’re in business….

Is there a NEC reference for that you know of?, as I see Romex brought

anything is possible, but hopefully trees are of more interest. Thank

William,
Both Midnite AIO and the Sol-Ark line are capable of this "self
consumption", and yes, you would put CTs (that come with the inverters), on
L1 and L2 lines coming into the house. I've been solely using the AIO
since it has been an option, in large part because Midnite's batteries pair

Now that I am on NEM3 I need to consider a battery system to capture
daytime energy production and use it to self-power at night. I am new to
this concept so I apologize for newbie questions.

In my view, the real consideration here is whether or not the utility
should be allowed to be the arbiter of how much capacity a homeowner is
allowed to back up. My stance is no. They can't tell you how big of a
backup generator you can have. Why should they get to dictate what capacity

Still Jason it seems very crazy! When I do energy for a home in your
neck, usually offgrid, we use mini-splits and in a large home
like you are referring with the grid, the same thing, use a split for a
zone, like the kitchen and save all that wasted battery capacity backing
up the whole home. T
Haha, we would not have the pool heater on a backup system, but many times
people want a partial home backup system with whole home annual grid
offset.
But for practical purposes around here, full-time residents often just
trade pool heating for air conditioning based on season. If you size a

Can we please keep these idiotic conspiracy theories off this list.

My understanding of code is that all circuits need to be protected from
physical damage. It's the same with AC circuits in an unfinished
garage..can't have exposed romex under 8' in that scenario either.

Sure I get how important it is to electrically heat a pool in a power

I think the 8' rule for this is a little bizarre. I can have ac circuits
