We have recently found both Keira and Sandra in Outback tech support
to be quite helpful and knowledgeable.
Also, Outback has a new Director of New Product Development, Phil
Undercuffler. I believe that he will be a real asset to Outback, as

HI All,
I've had many issues with the Outback AGS.
Talking to outback is well to be frank a waste of time.
And to recap, the issues I'm talking about are: the AGS won't start when
needed. However it will start when you go to the mate and go to manual on.
The only fix has been to use a new/fa

Benn,
You kind of smacked the hornets nest on this one, the IAEI (International Association of Electrical Inspectors) magazine had a good article on this topic in the recent March/April issue.
I think the argument is best framed around the experience required to obtain the solar contractors/i
I suggest a monthly "repoll" to my off grid clients. It seems to reduce the
lack of reliability that is often found w/ the AGS & Outback.

I did not reply to this post originally, because it was pertaining to
Canadian contractor laws, but in California, the acceptable license
classifications for installing solar are C-10 (electric), C-46 (solar), General

There is a glitch in the 24hr, 2hr & 2 min timer clocks used for AGS in
V4.0x series Mates. This may be your issue. They are unreliable and seem
to work fine until next time. Apparently the newest software V4.6 overcomes
this. I have resorted to putting systems back on to Genalert as a tempo
Daryl,
Magnum has a stand alone AGS that may do what you want. Another
possibility is the Morningstar relay driver. You can program multiple
channels of the Morningstar relay driver to start at different voltage
levels and time delays, similar to the SW or Outback Mate voltage start

I'm with William.. Outback has gobs of gadgetry that makes gen control fun.. just make sure it's set up right, and don't be bashful about calling Outback with questions.. especially if you're using their battery monitor goodies... also might be a good idea to make sure you're set up to use AGS (Mat

I believe the Mate is the best option to start a generator and exercise
control over generator battery charging. Outboard units have proven to be
less intelligent about charging functions. I recommend you work out your
problems with the Outback and use the Mate.

I still haven't found a substitute for the venerable SW series inverters from

Even after the Outback inverters came out, I still used the SWs for autostart
projects. Otherwise it was just too much hassle.

Hello:
The reason California instituted the (C46) solar classification 25 years
ago is simple: to resolve these issues. At a point in the past, before the

Hello Benn,
I have some pretty strong opinions about this subject but some of them are
reflections on politics as opposed to sound engineering design and best
installation practices.

At least in the U.S., in jurisdictions I have

or connected to a terminal, an electrician is needed.
