Those slots are there for the "key" on the socket side of the seatpost bolt
arrangement. One could choose which side to put the keyed socket in I
guess, but you'd never use both keyed sides at the same time or you would

I Like mine. I dislike the rear tail light attachment as you need to splice
it in and the shrink wrap is a pain but the light as a whole is solid. I'd
buy it again, which is a pretty strong statement.

Very often people rotate the shifter base by 90 degrees by mistake because
the shifter has been on and off its based several times in its life and
people just lose track.
I tried that Bill.
