Another good ride is the Transportation Alternatives NY Century ride
in early September. You can sign up for varying distances from about
15 up to 100 miles. The roads aren't closed for it so you don't get
that experience, but the crowds are a bit less and bit mellower. You
still have to watch o
You've got lots of opinions here already, but I'll say that I really
wasn't comfortable with the front child seat. It felt like it was
going to get in the way of my steering and manouevering, but then my
daughter got tall really fast. We used a CoPilot Limo rear seat for a
couple of years and it w
As mentioned above, Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn is the closest,
though it sounds a little rough around the edges. See the recent
article at the NYTimes site for more details:

Perhaps we should plan an introductory ride at some point so we could
all meet. My wife is decidely NOT interested in bicycle camping so
I'm a bit on my own in these matters myself.
My schedule is pretty flexible until July too. I just haven't been
doing very many miles yet this spring so I'm a
I ride an Atlantis here in NYC and my wife has a Glorius and there are
a few other Rivs around town I know. You don't see them very often
though.
In the fall there is often an IBOB vintage ride on the old Croton

No doubt there's plenty in the archives on this subject, but one quick
difference in my opinion is the greater strength of the cassette/
freehub system. I'm a big guy, 6'2" 210lbs. I've broken one axle on a
freewheel and seen several others bent by people of similar size.
Never had any trouble on
Don't know exactly what route Will took, but I circumnavigated NYC on
my Atlantis last year before some of the most recent sections of bike
path opened and I estimated the distance at around 30 miles, give or
take a couple miles. There are decidedly rough sections and on-street
detours, especiall
I've used a locally famous mechanic named Hal at Bicycle Habitat on
Lafayette. Never on anything as involved as what you're doing, but he
built me a wheel and dealt with some smaller problems on my Atlantis
and all turned out fine. Bike Habitat isn't the cheapest, but I've
found their work good,
Glad it's working out for you. Eric at Bicycle Habitat is a good guy
too. He taught a six session bicycle mechanics course there that I
took a couple years ago. It really kick started me into doing my own
work (though it also gave me just enough knowledge to be dangerous.)
