As mentioned above, Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn is the closest,
though it sounds a little rough around the edges.  See the recent

Also farther afield, but with very nice campground is Clarence
Fahnestock State Park, up the Hudson near Cold Spring.  This is
probably a good 5-6 hour ride, but I think you can do a lot of it off
road on rail trails.  Try Google's new bicycle directions as a
starting point.  It definitely routes a good portion of the way off
roads.  You could also take Metro North trains part of the way up the
Hudson and ride from there.  And taking your bike on Metro North are
pretty easy to do.  Just see their website for a few restrictions.

I've camped at both Harriman and Fahnestock and both are very nice.
Haven't biked to either, but I'm hoping to this summer.
