The IRD Aplina is not a copy of the Ultegra.
I used it to replace a 9-speed Ultegra on a 48-34-24 set up. The
Ultegra was VERY fussy to get working. I literally bolted the IRD in
place, adjusted the stops and it works perfectly. All that said, I
tried one on my wife's new Ebisu All-Purpose
I used the block-and-tackle type shown by Marc with a tandem for 5
years without an issue.

I had the chain suck with a number of RD2 cranksets. I found that the
index mark on the middle chainring needs to be at 1:00 when the arm is at
12:00. If the index is at 11:00, then shifting pins occasionally grab the
chain.

It is a very nice bell. I have mine rotated into a tight spot. It wasn't
hard to position.
Also, the diameter of the mount matches the typical headset spacer
diameter. The VO spacer didn't.

If the seat tube has some distortion from brazing, then a long post can be
a problem. This is easy to fix. Shorten the post with a hacksaw and file
a small chamfer on the new end. Make sure to leave at least the same
length as the original end to min insertion line.

I have been using these for about 1.5 years. They have been working
well for me. I started to use them after all my old cleated shoes

I didn't see anyone discussing rim strip. Make sure that the rim
strips is as thin as possible, no fold backs, no laying on the bead
seat. I use plastic rim strips because they are the thinnest. Th
