Every thing I have heard on this thread makes perfect sense, but here in
Michigan the law still requires the left hand signals exclusively. It's
not as if anybody enforces it, we use whatever will be visible (maybe
flares?). In the final analysis, the legality, visibility and usefulness

Weird. In PA we have to do all from the left too. Did not know that.

This is excessively cynical. It is not at all irrelevant for a cyclist to

I suspect most of us are guilty of this car thing.

Hi Patrick,
Here in Oz lots of people I know (or have seen around the place) who eschew
racks and other sensible things, invest in an omni-directional light such

it matters not a jot where the are pointed as long as its g

One more vote for the PDW Fenderbots. I've had 'em on my Longboards for a

I am looking to purchase a Rivendell for my wife and thought I would take a
shot in the dark in hopes that someone was interested in selling a 47- 50

Hi Michael,
THANK YOU very much! Had been scouring major cities looking within the

The way I mount my blinky to the rear wheel area is to use one of the Paul
Gino light mounts

I then use the seatpost clamp that came with the PB blinky.
The Gino mounts are useful for a few things. I've got a headlight mounted

If there happen to be two such rivs to be had I am in the same boat. :)

Although they are a bit more than buying a used frame or bike there are three
such items on the Riv website. Actually four if you count the pink custom
frame.
$1500 for the Toyo AHH frame new with headset is a decent price.

Those are a riot. But I think they might be upside down. :-)

Thanks for alerting me to this; it's going to the archive. It looks ideal,
and I'd spring if it didn't cost $100. Here is a decent youtube
illustration (the anecdote about the old lady rearending the speaker at 8
am in the morning makes me want to wear a helmet again).

Thanks, Mike: an option I've not considered. I've hesitated to mount a rear
light down by the dropout because I so often shove this bike (Fargo) into a
car -- will have to review my reluctance. Wonder if it could be mounted
inboard of the dropout on the left side -- prolly not b/c of the disk
brake
I have two mid-seat stay braze ons on both my Rivs. I keep two PDW RadBot 1000s
mounted on each bike, set in solid mode, not flash. My ideal lighting situation
if they were solar powered.

I drive and bike equally. I also bus and train a bit. The worst specimens of
all those who take a form of transit are those who set no a dichotomy (or
quadchotomy?) of exclusivity. I loathe terrible drivers and cyclists equally.
Buses terrify me with their blatant disregard for the law here in

You should probably see what size your wife should be riding using

Wonder if that Carradice bag is actually a really, really faded green bag.
I've seen that happen before. I believe Derrick in southern California has

That 48cm Sam is a raging deal at $2200 for a complete bike. There's also
the lovely Betty Foy frame for $1050. You're not likely to find a small
used Riv that is significantly cheaper than that.

Yes, Eric, the Carradice is a somewhat faded green. It is mine, and it is
also coated with a fair amount of gravel dust. I brush the dust off
occasionally, but can't keep up with the accumulation.
