As others have suggested, Spenco is a good choice. My favorite is the
Elite series. Not too much padding. And the leather palms are the
best of the bunch, in my opinion. A bike shop in Grand Marais, MN
clued me into the Elite. Although will use the Touring model if
nothing else is available.
If you're looking for a non-aero replacement, what about these?

Good idea, Seth. We used to do that 8 or 9 years ago. The tough part
is that "garage sale-worthy" stuff's worthiness is so subjective that
you really gotta see it in person. Trying to describe the condition of
something over the phone, or hope that a photo captures it, is not
always easy.

I don't use gloves personally, but Matt Chester, a framebuilder who

The real problem is for those of us who are about 400 miles away. Just close
enough to say, "hmm, maybe a trip would be worth it, but just far enough to be
a bit insane." Better make it a trip to ride the mountain, and any garage sale
find would be icing.

Hi Everyone,
I finally got my Riv Custom back from Joe Bell last week after a long and
torturous wait. Over the weekend, I was able to build it up and snap some pics.
I posted them on my blog with some details about the build:

Enjoy!
Looks sharp!
The orange on the silver gives it a bit of a modern look.

Aaakkk! Get that pump strap off there--it will leave rub marks in the

IMHO, you shouldn't need a pump strap. I use a frame-fit pump on my
Riv Road and Quickbeam sans strap, and have never had it fall off.

Thanks to everyone who sent in their recommendations for generously

Yeah I do like the idea of online garage sale items. Buying the items
online would be like an assumed risk and there could possibly be a no
return policy. Posting the items online would be great because I live
3000 miles away and going to the sale is obviously not a reality.

Good thread. I've been having problems with sore palms during
distance rides. I've been using the Spenco gel gloves but I find that
they cause my hands to get hot/sweaty during longer rides (causing
some abrasion on skin of palms). I've also used the Fizik gel padding
under bar tape but sometime

I've never had one fall off either when I didn't use a strap. But I do
use a strap now; it keeps any noise due to vibration from occurring

Not worried about falling off, just rattling non-stop.

Hugi hubs are very well made. The ones currently in use are about 5 years old
and have never been serviced. They still run smooth. I have slightly older set
of Hugi hubs that have developed some play and need to have the bearings
replaced. The bearings are cartridge-type and are simply pressed
Of course, on the way home my pump rattled and rattled and at one time seemed
to snap back into its place on the frame. At the first opportunity, I fished
the strap out of my bag and put it back on. Vanity is not a good reason for
leaving the strap off.
I don't know if this makes a difference,
