There's a Atlantis owner in my club that successfully converted to
650B using the Tektro Oryx canti brakes. You probably have to spend a
lot more to get noticeable better braking.

Forrest,
I've had a 26" wheeled Rivendell All-Rounder for 10 years. It has
served well as a travel bike (S&S couplings), century bike, touring
bike and now a commuter. I've never had an issue finding appropriate
26" tires.

Why do it? For the creme tires, of course. That, and, why not?

Ha! Do we really want to start exploring that question? If everything
we've done or contemplated doing with our bikes had a point, the
traffic on this list would be mighty slow.

Thanks to everyone for a wealth of very helpful (and interesting)
information about this potential conversion. I'm probably going to try
the Riv A/R at first (and for a good long while) with the original
intended 559's. But if I ever get the itch to switch, I now know how.
Thank you! -- Forrest (

To all,
Well, this is my impression of the Rivendell All rounder 650b version.
During that time I did not own a road bike, so a bigger wheels sure
feel faster. Is it actually faster? My answer is no. It does feel
faster.
I have a road bike now and sold the Rivendell, at this point, if I own

Sorry, I mean I converted a Rivendell All rounder from 559 to 584
before. BB height is higher but I don't mind a higher BB in the first
place.

I did it mostly as an experiment, to give 650B a try, and to reduce
the chance of pedal strike, since it's a fixed gear. I was inspired to
try it when I saw early photos of a Bombadil prototype, and was
curious to set up a similar 650B ATB with slack angles. Alas, I

Forrest,
Hi, I have concerted a Riv. A/R from 26 to 650b. I used 32c tires and
Tektro Oryx brakes because it has enough upward reach.

I converted my Haluzak SWB recumbent from 559 to 584 simply by moving
the pads out to the most extreme setting on the Shimano DeOre LX
V-brake. Works fine. I did this conversion in order to get the same
nice fat and wide tires that I have on my Bleriot - Velocity Synergy
asym rims and Panara

I believe Avid and Tektro have made brakes in the past that had
similar adjustability. I don't think it would work with most standard
cantilevers.
