By the way, I have over 5000 miles on mine and they still look good. I
have shellaced them a time or two. It only takes a second and it keeps
them clean.

Cork grips with bar end shifters on the Hillborne and cork with
thumbies on the new (to me) Atlantis. The bar end grips have the
groove for the shifter cable and twine wrap holding the cable to the
grips. The twine is the only thing I shellac - the cork cleans easily.

I have cork w/ bar ends on a 'bars and cloth tape on some Bosco's. Both
shellac'ed which helps tremendously with the dirt and water. I tried ergots,
which w/ the sweep seemed to work better inverted with the extra part faced
inward. They were fine, but not necessary. The shellac'ed cork does get

I prefer the appearance of cork grips, but the last time I used them
on A bars, my hand would rest into the notch (median?) between the
fleshy parts of the palm, causing repeated discomfort.
Maybe I should try again -- been a couple years, and the bar position
has migrated.

I use the velo orange leather bar wrap. I back wrap it with standard cloth
tape. What a pain to wrap and sew it up but it looks the business.
